The words “food” and “school” conjure up nightmarish memories of lunch ladies’ in hairnets, bland chicken burgers and lumpy gravy over limp fries. So it’s a treat to have those experiences erased and replaced with images that are much more visually appealing. Brunch time at School Bakery and Café (70 Fraser Ave.) in Liberty Village is a something I’ll have fond memories about for a long time.

Read on to learn more about the conceptual interior design and find out what grade School received when I handed out its report card.

Our favorite restaurant was at it again. Earlier this year Terroni opened a new Italian fixed-price restaurant called Osteria Ciceri E Tria. Yes it’s a mouthful to say and remember, but the unique dining concept is catching on quick. Located in the former Terroni Victoria Street location, Osteria Ciceri E Tria is holding it down and serving it up with bite-sized portions. The Double P’s, along with our friend Edgar, ventured to Osteria for dinner last week and left with mixed feelings.

Read on to discover the numerous ways to order your meal.

It’s no secret that the Double P’s love for food stems from our childhoods. We both come from families who hold eating in high regard; having a good meal is just as important as having a good life. For example, whenever my grandmother would call to say hi, she’d ask “What did you eat for dinner?” instead of “How are you?”

So when my parents rave about a new restaurant, it means 1) It’s good, and 2) We’ll be going for our next family outing. Serving “modern Middle Eastern” cuisine, SHoom SHoom (7355 Bayview Ave.) in Thornhill is their latest love. Mom and dad have been going on and on about the big portions, the great service and how busy it always is. Based on my first visit there, there was already a large line-up by 6:30 pm, the staff are very friendly and welcoming, and the main dishes are absolutely humongous.

How big is humongous? Read on to see the massive mains, and how many leftover meals my doggy bag became.

A dinner party is a time for hosts and guests to intimately connect. A time to communicate with friends, a social gathering while brooding over that intense bordeaux surrounded by the intoxicating aromas of the meal to come. To be invited to such an event is a special treat which is what Adam Hilborn and Alain Parizeau, co-owners of Barbershop Gallery (1718 Queen Street West) have done. The two invited 15 people to dine with Adam before his solo show “Homeward Bound” at the gallery. The rare opportunity allowed guests to discuss his body of work and get first dibs on purchasing a piece before the show opened to the masses. We had the chance to catch up with Adam and discuss how the dining concept all came about.

Who were the chefs? What was on the menu? When’s the next dinner? Continue reading as we go one on one with the owner of Barbershop Gallery.

I love music. I love food. So one of the best things in the world is meeting a musician who loves food. We’ve already had culinary chats with Drake and The Clipse, but chilling with Ivana Santilli — who’s as talented in the kitchen as she is onstage as a singer, songwriter and musician — is a treat in itself.

At a recent dinner party in Toronto, Ivana staged a kitchen takeover and made homemade bruschetta, guacamole and her pièce de résistence, Pappardelle with Sugo Crudo.

Sugo, what? Believe me, this is one unusual pasta dish. Read on to learn more about Ivana, and her top secret, mouth-watering meal.
