Here’s a little tip from a disgruntled Double P. We believe dinning at a restaurant is a real treat and eating an amazing meal should be considered a sacred event. So for all those Blackberry/iPhone addicts, please remember that tapping away during a communal meal is extremely impolite. Checking your email, chatting and reading articles? It’s just plain rude. Whatever happened to good ol’ fashioned table manners? Check your phones at the door the next time you decide to fork over your hard-earned dough to chow down in the company of others. Come On! Who’s with me?

One of the most memorable food ventures the Double P’s took together was a two-week vacation to sultry Buenos Aires. We feasted on super-sized flanks of meat, bountiful glasses of red wine, melt in your mouth sushi and delicious fresh empanadas, which we sometimes consumed twice daily. Ever since our travels, we’ve desperately been trying to find a restaurant that captures the true essence of our Argentinian journey and none have held up until last week.

Hold onto your platos, I think the search may finally be over. Read on for our South American find.

Earlier this month we posted about our first experience with Saltfish Haitian Patties which were imported from Laval, Quebec by our dear friend Henri. A lot of readers asked us where they could get these (while others left comments wishing Henri would magically appear at their door with a box full). Well, when I opened The Toronto Star this Saturday I was pleased to see a list of Haitian food stores in Toronto and an accompanying picture of Luka Cinéus, co-owner of St. Clair Bakery, holding a box of these prized patties. Not sure if they carry saltfish, but at least Henri has no excuse but to bring these to every pot-luck dinner we attend.

Forget Swanson, Michelina’s and Lean Cuisine, the TV dinner has officially been reinvented. Last week Grace Upstairs (503 College St.) started embracing nostalgia with their TV Dinner Thursdays. So yesterday after work I headed over to find out how they’ve managed to make this classic even remotely appetizing.

For $20, Bryan Lavers (Grace’s Chef de Partie, shown above) dishes it all up on a retro aluminum tray, including the featured main of meat (or veggie upon request), side potato, vegetable, bread and dessert. Unlike those frightening frozen cardboard meals, this is fresh, delicious and you’ll be begging for seconds.

What exactly does this dinner tray look like? And what should you be watching on TV while you eat it? Read on for all the sordid details.

I woke up the other day with a craving for a big, fresh chocolate chip cookie and I brought this craving to Kensington’s Sublime Espresso Bar—my morning espresso spot. Sublime peddles cookies and muffins by Miss Cora’s Kitchen, a little bakery and lunch spot located just around the corner.

When I arrived at the bar I was a bit dismayed to see a single, busted-up cookie at the bottom of the cookie jar. It looked pretty sad.

Did our fearless Kensington expert Christopher Hutsul get stuck with nothing but crumbs? And how did he meet the man and cat in the picture? Read on to see how this cookie crumbled.
