Simply put, Fire on the East Side has one of the tastiest, most pleasant brunches around. The ambiance is casual but lively, the service is friendly and the food is better than we’re used to at this time of day. Before you start thinking they’re located in Leslieville, please note that when they’re referring to the “east side” they literally mean three doors east of Yonge St.

What’s the east side got to make your morning memorable? Read on for the good, the so-so and the oh so tasty.

Sweetwater is one of those special restaurants that exudes warm, old-world feelings from the ornate, decorative tiled floors, dark wooden bar, dim cozy lighting and intimate booths. It’s a regular dinner stop for me, a place to meet friends for glass of wine, and a must-see for all out-of-town visitors. But recently I ventured there for brunch and devoured one of my all-time favorite dishes, baked eggs! The perfect hearty winter meal to warm the belly and feed the soul.

Mmmmm, cheesy eggs in tomato sauce. Now we’re talking!

It’s not an understatement when I proclaim that Olive et Gourmando is one of my favourite places to eat in the world. When I was in Montreal for six days on a work trip, I ate here four times. The only thing that stopped me from going more frequently is it’s closed on Sundays and Mondays, and after 6pm. If I was ever to open my own restaurant, this is exactly the kind of place I’d want it to be.

Yep, I’m an O&G groupie. Read on for superfluous adjectives, ass-kissing descriptions and a fawning review. But rest assured, it’s all completely deserved.

If there’s one thing that’s difficult to find in Toronto, it’s a good Thai restaurant. Don’t get me wrong, that doesn’t mean there’s a shortage, since pad thai can be found in food courts everywhere. The unfortunate fact is that most of these Thai restaurants happen to suck. So it was a pleasant surprise when I was treated to dinner by my godparents at Mengrai Gourmet Thai (82 Ontario St.), an upscale restaurant that feels both authentic and adventurous with its cuisine.

Believe me, you haven’t seen Thai food like this. Curries served inside pineapples and coconuts are part of why it’s considered the best Thai food outside of Chiang Mai. Read on and drool.

It’s a fact, spice-induced Asian food kicks ass. And not in the “Oh my gawd, I think my ass is gonna explode!” kind of way, but more along the lines of “You go girl, that rocks!” complete with two finger snaps. I love it all: Indian, Chinese, Thai and most importantly Malaysian. I think the secret lies in the fact that Malaysia is a melting pot of ethnic races and the co-mingling of foods in this cultural orgy means one thing: A bangin’ good meal.

Where did I catch my fishy friend? Read on to find out.
