Let’s Get Baked

Sweetwater is one of those special restaurants that exudes warm, old-world feelings from the ornate, decorative tiled floors, dark wooden bar, dim cozy lighting and intimate booths. It’s a regular dinner stop for me, a place to meet friends for glass of wine, and a must-see for all out-of-town visitors. But recently I ventured there for brunch and devoured one of my all-time favorite dishes, baked eggs! The perfect hearty winter meal to warm the belly and feed the soul.

Baked eggs in this case meant the Eggs Provencal ($9): two poached eggs baked in a tomato sauce with parmesan cheese and grilled bread.

Normally we propose proper ladylike etiquette. But when a rustic dish such as this one is placed before you, neanderthal-like behavior is bound to set in. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself ripping apart the bread with feral man hands as you scoop up hot bits of egg, fresh tomato sauce and mounds of oozing, melted cheese.

I like getting baked just as much as the next person, and this particular type of baked gives the word a whole new meaning.
