You can’t get a true sense of how good a cookbook is by trying only one recipe, which is why when we reviewed Martha Stewart Living’s Everyday Food: Fresh Flavor Fast, we wanted to cook up more than one dish. Next up on the testing block is Panko-Crusted Fish Sticks with Herb Dipping Sauce.

Looks delicious in the cookbook, but how would my version end up? Read on for the results.

There’s great charm in finding a local diner you can make your own — a place where the cooks know your name, your order and the rest of your family. Avenue Diner (222 Davenport Rd.) isn’t this place for me (yet), but it clearly has a place in the hearts of its many loyal patrons.

Why is this diner filled with regulars? Read on for their classics that draw people back again and again.

Welcome to the first entry of our new series featuring cookbook reviews. We’re huge fans of the tiny monthly magazine Everyday Food from Martha Stewart because they’re filled with recipes that are simple and delicious. In fact, when the other Double P moved to New York, she gifted her collection of old mags to me so they’d be in good hands. So it’s only fitting that we kick things off with Everyday Food: Fresh Flavor Fast. Check out what happens when we test out the first of two dishes, plus, we give you the recipe for their Farfalle with Arugula and White Beans.

Will my attempt turn out anything like what the cookbook promised? Read on for the experiment.

It’s no secret that Yuzu is my favourite place for sushi in Toronto. It just doesn’t get better than this. So during a recent visit when Chef Bruce Bu presented a new seasonal appetizer menu, I knew I had to try a few of the goodies. The Hokkaido Scallops ($9) are so good, we ordered it twice.

What made them so delectable? Well, if you have even a mild interest in a tiny sushi pizza, read on.

When it comes to a slurp-worthy bowl of ramen noodles, New York City has Toronto beat by a mile. For some reason, my dear city hasn’t been able to get this right. Japanese noodle houses are few and far between, and the ones I’ve tried are either below or around the average mark. Kenzo Ramen (138 Dundas St. West) is adequately decent, but nothing to rave about.

Why so ho-hum? Find out why this noodle soup didn’t have me slurp-happy.
