To truly experience Buca (602 King St. W.), you need to set aside a large chunk of time. About the same amount you’d spend traveling to and from the movie theatre and seeing James Cameron’s latest 162-minute epic with those blue people. Located 25 steps down an alley in Toronto, Buca is Italian dining that embraces slow-cooking. For me, this meant eating 10 dishes over the course of three-and-a-half hours.

What kind of glutton eats for almost four hours? I do, and I take pictures of it all! Read on for the scrumptious eye candy.

Being forced to stay late and working into the wee hours of the evening doesn’t mean you have to be miserable. Hells no! Simply pick up a menu for the tastiest sushi joint around and order the living crap out of it. What are you worried about? It’s on the company, right! Which means your main entree should involve a side of liquid inebriation. Did someone say sake.

Only sake can inspire me to write a Japanese proverb. Seriously! You don’t want to miss my profound words of wisdom.

Yes, there was a learning curve and to everyone’s surprise (including our own) we’re still at it, and today we’re celebrating our first birthday! To recap the past year when eating became “part of the job,” we’re looking back at the 10 best dishes from Plato Putas’s first 365 days. Let the drooling begin.

Come take a walk down memory lane as we share with your our top culinary moments of the past year.

Airplane food is a beast all it’s own. It’s dreaded by most and ranks only slightly higher than hospital food. I used to look forward to the food cart rolling down the narrow aisle; as a child I was intrigued by the tiny cups and plates, when I grew older I learned to carefully weigh my choice between pasta or chicken, and eventually I experienced true joy when something was actually good, like the teriyaki chicken on Japan Airlines. Sadly, nowadays food has been eliminated on most North American flights (that’s right, it’s coach class over here!), so eating in the air usually means brown bagging it or grabbing a something from the airport food court.
