Is it just us, or does a chip feel naked without dip? The Double P’s are a huge fan of smothering tortillas with stuff, from edmame hummus to fresh salsa. So when I found So Delicious Hot Mexican 7-Layer Dip ($6.99), it was like a chorus of angels sang as I opened up the plastic container.
While they also have a mild version, I dig the topping of tiny hot peppers that give a generous kick to this snack. I’m not sure what they consider as the seven individual layers, but I always spot re-fried beans, an avocado mayo mixture, an orange-y sour cream layer, green onions, fresh tomato pieces, and shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese.

Our chip of choice is Garden Fresh Gourmet’s Kettle Style Tortilla Chips ($4.69). I prefer the Unsalted kind, but they also come in Salted, Blue Corn and Toasted Sesame. They can be found at most grocery stores, including Valu-Mart, Metro and Whole Foods.

Plunge one of these chips into the dip and voila, a mouthful of goodness is headed towards your stomach. So Delicious Dip can be hard to find. It’s in the refrigerated section near the fresh salsas and the only place I can find it consistently is at Sobeys just south of Yonge & Wellesley St. in Toronto. Spread the word and request it at a grocery store near you. Since it features fresh ingredients, the expiration date may only be a few days away when you purchase it. But take our word for it, this won’t even last until tomorrow.

Thanks to my pal Henri for another great introduction to a totally addictive treat. Along with his Haitian Patties, he’s two-for-two.

This is really your first time having this dip???? This is my staple dip…maybe I was too cheap to buy this when you have come over. Sorry!!! It really is good with the Garden Fresh Gourmet blue chips. Also, they have this dip in in a smaller serving. Unfortunately, it is so addictive that it is usually finished before my guest arrives.
