There’s only one proper way to kick-start the summer, and that’s by showcasing my absolute favourite place for a cool treat. La Paloma is a gelato institution and on any warm summer night you’ll find it packed with locals, elder Italian men, rambunctious kids hopped up on sugar and well, me.

The selection of flavours at La Paloma is vast, and the quality, taste and lightness rivals what you’ll find on a European vacation. The ordering process is simple: first browse the glass counter and narrow down your flavour choices. Then head to the cash and place your order. If you’re feeling like you can pack away a good amount and want to try a couple flavours, I recommend the $4.75 option which allows you to pick two choices.

On this day, I went with the classic Limon (lemon) and then the more trendy Pomegranate. I definitely preferred the lemon and kinda missed my other usual choice, Stracciatella (chocolate chip). There are over 70 flavours to choose from, including: Soy Chocolate, Tiramisu, Nutella, Cinnamon, Fig or Pistachio. The best part is, on a warm night you just step outside with your cup or cone and join the throngs of other happy patrons on the street. Yep, this is truly gelato at its best.
