A few weeks back I took a closer look at Yogurty’s (527 Bloor St. West & various locations), the newest frozen yogurt shop to open in the Annex. It’s the place for self-serve frozen yogurt and DIY toppings. And while there’s a seemingly endless supply of  nuts, candies, chocolates and gooey syrups to pour over your fro-yo, there’s always the danger of overindulging and discovering your once dainty bowl now packs a load of calories and costs a whooping $9 (priced by weight at 55 cents per ounce).

Read on to find out how to create the fro-yo bowl of your dreams.

A few years back I was one of those annoying people lamenting the fact that the States were privy to many DIY frozen yogurt shops while Toronto had none. Now I see exactly how my wishes have turned on me, since the stretch of Bloor West between Spadina to just west of Bathurst is now dotted with three of them. I’ve visited Menchie’s previously but it’s definitely worth welcoming the newest shop Yogurty’s (527 Bloor St. West & various locations) to the Annex.

Can you guess how many flavours they’ve got inside? Read on to pre-plan which ones you’ll be swirling into your bowl.

Yes, what you see above is a monstrosity of frozen yogurt overindulgence. Which is basically the point of everyone’s first visit to Menchie’s (511 Bloor St. W). Toronto finally has a self-serve fro-yo shop, complete with 12 flavours, and an endless combination of toppings and sauces to help you tailor-make your perfect bowl.

Wanna see these exactly how many toppings Menchie’s offers? Read on because I guarantee you’ll be shocked and amazed.

Remember back in the day, when you’d spend the summer sucking on homemade juice popsicles made in those plastic popsicle trays? Well, like most things nowadays, homemade popsicles have become fancier, faster and easier. Long gone are the hours spent waiting for the juice to freeze. Now you’ll be licking a pop in about seven minutes, thanks to the Zoku Quick Pop Maker.  Meet Elia, the adorably cute 13-month-old who will share her thoughts on this gadget. As you can see from her above expression, she’s trying to convey the yumminess of her apple-grape  juice pop.

Wondering what the heck is a Zoku? You’re not alone. Read on to find out more about this 21st century contraption.

Besides a generous scoop of gelato, my favourite frozen desert is a big bowl o’ fro yo. Whenever I’m in the States, it’s all about Pinkberry and Yogurt World. And since Toronto is way behind on this trend, there are only few good options in my fair city. I’ll get Yogen Fruz when I’m seeing a movie at Varsity Cinemas, or Blushberry when I’m working at MuchMusic, but this weekend I found my new fave at Mon Berri.

What makes their fro yo superior? Read on to find out the bacteria-filled truth.
