New York City

My trip down to New York City a few months ago meant lots of good eatin’ and being reunited with the other Plato Putas co-founder, my dear pal Jas. The highlight was Sunday morning at the Brooklyn Flea (North 6th & Kent in Williamsburg, BK). We browsed through vintage finds and ate tacos (two for $6) on the waterfront looking towards the Manhattan skyline. Here’s a look at a few other noteworthy food moments from my trip.

This is a fresh egg hand-picked from Martha Stewart’s farm. Now I didn’t get to personally go up to Cantitoe Corners in Bedford, New York to fetch the egg, but I did get to eat it.

During a recent visit to New York City, I stayed in the Brooklyn apartment of two very successful ladies and one just so happens to work for MarthaStewart.com. Martha’s 153-acre farm is home to about 200 chickens and they can lay up to 900 eggs per week. She brings big bowls of eggs into her office, sends out an email to the staff and supposedly the bowls are emptied in three minutes flat.

Read on to find out how these eggs are different in shape and taste from the store-bought kind.

Between doing concerts, recording, DJing and his resident gig on Late Night with Jimmy FallonAhmir “?uestlove” Thompson of The Roots spends a lot of time in New York City. And while he raves about the food served in the cafeteria at 30 Rock, when he really wants to get his eat on, there’s one very special place in Soho that’s near and dear to his heart.

What NYC restaurant has the drummer beating down its door? Read on to find out.

Being forced to stay late and working into the wee hours of the evening doesn’t mean you have to be miserable. Hells no! Simply pick up a menu for the tastiest sushi joint around and order the living crap out of it. What are you worried about? It’s on the company, right! Which means your main entree should involve a side of liquid inebriation. Did someone say sake.

Only sake can inspire me to write a Japanese proverb. Seriously! You don’t want to miss my profound words of wisdom.

Yesterdays sushi review was subpar, but today it’s sublime! I can’t believe I’ve lived in NYC for almost two years now and had yet to try a meal at the Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill. Being a tad on the pricey side, it’s not the sort of place I usually think about popping into after a hard days work. I usually reserve these sorts of restaurants for more special occasions, and a going away lunch for my former boss was the perfect excuse to tag along and dig in.
