Nothing bonds two co-workers like a shared love of food. Just a couple weeks ago I sat down in an editing suite to work for the first time with Editor Eric. While cutting segments together, we talked about travel and how much good food meant to us. During the conversation, he mentioned a lunch spot near his previous job, Liberty Noodle (171 East Liberty St.). So that following weekend when my stomach started grumbling, I popped in for a 5pm Saturday snack.

Read on to find out how these noodles stacked up and whether Liberty squashed my snack attack.

When it comes to a slurp-worthy bowl of ramen noodles, New York City has Toronto beat by a mile. For some reason, my dear city hasn’t been able to get this right. Japanese noodle houses are few and far between, and the ones I’ve tried are either below or around the average mark. Kenzo Ramen (138 Dundas St. West) is adequately decent, but nothing to rave about.

Why so ho-hum? Find out why this noodle soup didn’t have me slurp-happy.

For many, many years, the word “ramen” was synonymous with Mr. Noodle. Those dried noodle cups and MSG-filled flavour pouches were quick, easy and necessary sustenance for our college years. But we’ve grown-up, and thankfully ramen in North America has too. While the noodle itself is 330-years old and the soul food of Japan, the ramen rage hasn’t taken off in Toronto yet. So during a recent visit to New York, I made sure to stop by Ippudo NY, the first non-Japanese location of this famous Japanese chain.

What’s Ippudo got on Mr. Noodle? And what side dish overshadowed my main? Read on for all the juicy, slurpy scoop.
