I fell in love with Thai restaurant Sukhothai when I first ate there last month, and vowed to eat my way through their small and delicious-looking menu. This pledge is not going well at all. On my second visit I ended up ordering their Beef Khao Soi again because I had been craving it for days. And on my third visit, I ate off-menu.

UPDATE (Feb. 2011): While Sukhothai is still open, Chef Nuit and many of these dishes can now be found at her new restaurant, Khao San Road.

I could say it’s one of the best Thai restaurants in the city, I could also say it might just be the best, but I’m willing to lay down the definitive win here: Sukhothai is the best Thai in Toronto. There are many reasons it earns this title, the first is their Garlic Chicken ($7.25). I’d read raves and praises about the dish and I thought: ‘What’s the big deal? It’s pieces of fried chicken?’ But then I took a bite.
